A small independent product with a clear opinion about how screenshots should work.

Why this exists

Every developer, PM, and support engineer has, at some point, sent a screenshot that included something they shouldn't have — an API key visible in the tab title bar, a customer email in the corner of a support ticket, a JWT token in a browser DevTools panel. Most of the time it's caught in review. Sometimes it isn't.

The existing screenshot tools all blur or redact after the snap is taken. That means the original pixels — the actual key, the actual email, the actual card number — sit in a file on your disk, in your clipboard, on your Slack upload, in someone's chat history. A careless edit or an accidental delete can reveal them.

Snipsmith flips that around. You mark what's sensitive before the screenshot fires. The mask is baked in at the pixel level when the snapshot is taken. There's no original underneath to leak.

Who's behind it

Snipsmith is built by an independent developer working under the Snipsmith trading name, based in Epsom, United Kingdom. If you have questions, feedback, or want to say hi, email hello@snipsmith.app — it comes straight to me, not a ticket queue.

How we make money

Snipsmith Free is genuinely free and always will be. Pro is a subscription (Monthly £2.99, Annual £24, or Lifetime £99) that unlocks Element capture, Range capture, auto-detection of sensitive data, upload destinations, and longer history retention. That's it. There's no data business behind the scenes; every user we have is a user who paid or a user who chose not to.

Payments are handled by LemonSqueezy as our merchant of record — they manage billing, taxes, and refunds. That means we can stay small and focused on the product.

Where we're headed

Roughly, in order:

  1. Get Snipsmith rock-solid on Chrome and every Chromium browser (Edge, Brave, Arc, Vivaldi)
  2. Firefox support (Manifest V3 is now stable on Firefox too)
  3. A public docs site with detailed guides for every feature
  4. Team plans for organisations who want to share a licence pool across a small group
  5. Extended auto-detect patterns customisable per company (employee IDs, project codes, etc.)
  6. Mask templates you can save and reuse across pages
