1. Who we are

Snipsmith ("we", "us", "our") is a Chrome browser extension and website operated by an independent developer trading as Snipsmith, based in Epsom, United Kingdom. Snipsmith is not a registered company; it operates as a UK sole trader. You can reach us at privacy@snipsmith.app for any data-protection question.

2. What Snipsmith does — and why that shapes this policy

Snipsmith is a screenshot extension. All screenshots, edits, mask boxes, and history are stored in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local) on your own device. Nothing is transmitted to us unless you deliberately trigger an upload feature (Pro-only Imgur / Google Drive / custom URL export), and even then, only that specific file is sent — to the destination you chose, not to us.

3. What we collect

a. Information you give us directly

• Email address — when you purchase a Pro subscription or contact support
• Payment information — handled entirely by our payment processor LemonSqueezy. We never see your card details
• Licence key — generated when you purchase Pro; used to unlock features across your devices
• Support messages — the content of any email you send to us

b. Information collected automatically by the extension

• Nothing sent to our servers. Captures, mask coordinates, editor history, and settings are stored locally in your browser
• When you validate or deactivate a licence, the extension calls our licence server (licence.snipsmith.app) with your licence key and a device fingerprint (browser + OS name only). No captures or personal data are transmitted

c. Information collected by our website

• Snipsmith's landing page (snipsmith.app) is hosted on Cloudflare and does not set any analytics or advertising cookies
• Cloudflare, our infrastructure provider, may log standard access metrics (IP address, request timestamps, user-agent) for security and abuse prevention — see Cloudflare's Privacy Policy
• If you visit our checkout page, LemonSqueezy may set functional cookies necessary to complete your purchase — see LemonSqueezy's Privacy Policy

4. Why we process your data (legal basis under GDPR)

• To run the product and fulfil your subscription (contractual necessity): validating your licence, providing Pro features, sending receipts
• To provide customer support (contractual necessity): responding to your emails
• To comply with legal obligations: tax reporting, invoice retention, fraud prevention
• Legitimate interest: security monitoring of our website and licence server against abuse

5. Who we share your data with

We share your data only with the following processors, each of whom is contractually required to handle it securely:

• LemonSqueezy (payment processing, merchant of record) — receives your email, name, billing address, and payment info during checkout
• Cloudflare (hosting and DNS) — receives standard request metadata for the website and licence server
• Google Workspace (email) — used for our @snipsmith.app support inbox

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use it to train AI models.

6. Where your data is stored

Captures and settings are stored on your own device in Chrome's local storage. Your account/payment data with LemonSqueezy is stored on their infrastructure (US and EU regions). Our licence server runs on Cloudflare's global network. We do not have our own database of user data.

7. How long we keep your data

• Local captures: kept until you delete them or uninstall the extension. Free tier auto-deletes after 7 days; Pro tier after 30 or 365 days depending on your setting
• Purchase records: retained by LemonSqueezy for as long as required by tax law (typically 7 years in most jurisdictions)
• Licence records: retained by us for the lifetime of your subscription plus 12 months, after which they're deleted
• Support emails: retained for 24 months, then deleted

8. Your rights (GDPR / UK GDPR / CCPA)

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
• Export your data in a machine-readable format ("right to data portability")
• Object to processing based on legitimate interests
• Lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (in the UK, the ICO)

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@snipsmith.app from the address associated with your account. We'll respond within 30 days.

9. Children

Snipsmith is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, email privacy@snipsmith.app and we will delete it.

10. Security

We use industry-standard technical measures to protect the data we handle: HTTPS everywhere, server-side rate limiting, secret key management via Cloudflare, and least-privilege access. Because the vast majority of your data never leaves your browser, the security surface we're responsible for is deliberately minimal.

11. International data transfers

Our processors (LemonSqueezy, Cloudflare, Google) operate globally. When data is transferred outside the UK/EEA, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses and the adequacy decisions in place with the receiving jurisdictions.

12. Changes to this policy

If we make a material change, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top and, where required, notify active Pro subscribers by email at least 14 days before the change takes effect.
